COUNTRY RADIO’S MOST-PLAYED ARTIST OF 2018, THOMAS RHETT NOTCHES 12th NO. ONE WITH “SIXTEEN”
The Latest Chart-Topper Marks Fifth Consecutive No. One Off LIFE CHANGES and Over One Billion Album Streams
January 22, 2019 – Nashville, TN – Country Radio’s most played artist of 2018, Thomas Rhett, racks up his 12th career No. One with “Sixteen” today, summiting both the Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase Airplay charts after already spending four weeks in the position in Canada. Co-written by Thomas Rhett, the nostalgic song is the fifth consecutive chart-topper from the PLATINUM-certified smash LIFE CHANGES (The Valory Music Co.), which has now surpassed one billion on-demand streams. Thomas Rhett topped Billboard’s year-end Country Airplay chart and is Mediabase’s Top Performing Artist and Top Male of 2018 as the only artist to have four songs in the top 100 songs of the year – “Unforgettable” (PLATINUM), “Marry Me” (2X PLATINUM), “Life Changes” (GOLD) and “Sixteen.”
Since its release, LIFE CHANGES has earned the top position on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, as well as CMA and ACM Awards nominations. Thomas Rhett was named iHeartRadio’s Country Artist of the Year for the second year in a row and was recently honored with his second CMA Triple Play award for penning three No. One songs within a 12-month period (“Unforgettable, “Marry Me” and “Life Changes”).
“Thomas Rhett is on a rare trajectory in a genre that typically moves slow as molasses in generating new superstars. He graduated to arena headliner status even before releasing his third album, ‘Life Changes,’ which certainly won’t put any stall in that ascent…with each track occupying a slightly different subgenre than the last, united only in the breezy consistency of their craft.” – Variety
“If you’ve paid any attention to Thomas Rhett’s music since he released his first single “Something To Do With My Hands” in 2012, you are fully aware that he is a man of no boundaries. While the 27-year-old singer remains country at his core, he’s infused pop, R&B and even a sprinkle of hip-hop into his material.” – Billboard
“Life Changes isn’t just flash; it’s grounded by its 14 well-constructed songs (that) retain their charms after multiple plays due to their sculpted melodies and Rhett’s light touch…evidence that Rhett is as savvy a musician as he is a pop star.” – All Music
“It’s a testament to Thomas Rhett’s confidence that he can fill a country album full of songs with references to other genres, including doo-wop “Grease”-style musicals, Springsteen heartland rock, EDM and ‘80s New Wave.” – Associated Press
“Thomas Rhett also happily crosses genre lines whenever he feels like it. Chart-topping lead single ‘Craving You’ featured Maren Morris and evoked the angular, futuristic disco of synth pop. In ‘Leave Right Now,’ he tries his hand at the build-release style of dance music popularized by the Chainsmokers. In the Latin-tinged ‘Gateway Love,’ he croons like Drake, while ‘Sweetheart’ calls back to Buddy Holly and the Crickets. And perhaps most surprisingly, he looks back to Seventies and Eighties country in ‘Drink a Little Beer,’ which features his dad, the artist and songwriter Rhett Akins.” – Rolling Stone
The “talented performer, songwriter and all-around star” (Forbes) will continue to showcase his “display of all around-entertainment” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) as he brings his LIFE CHANGES TOUR to Canada in April. The celebrated entertainer will then kick off his headlining VERY HOT SUMMER TOUR in May. For tickets and additional information, visit thomasrhett.com.
