Ellen DeGeneres Surprises Trio On Air With Gold Plaque
NASHVILLE, TN – Feb. 6, 2009 – Rising country music group Lady Antebellum’s self-titled debut release has been certified GOLD by the RIAA. At a taping of the Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday, Ellen surprised the GRAMMY nominated trio with a gold plaque after the band’s performance of their new single “I Run To You.” Watch the band’s candid reaction this Mon., Feb. 9 (check your local listing for times and affiliates) on a special GRAMMY episode.
“Of course, leave it to the girl in the group to cry,” laughs Lady Antbellum’s Hillary Scott. “We were so caught off guard, but it was such a special place for this to happen since our first national television performance was on ELLEN back when our album was released. It was a really cool moment for us to be able to stop and reflect on how amazing the last nine months have been.”
“Not a day goes by without someone telling me that this is their favorite album,” adds Capitol Nashville President Mike Dungan. ” This album has been consistently in the top ten since its release nine months ago. We are all so very proud of each of them, and elated that they have surpassed a milestone in what no doubt will be a long and sizable career.”
“I Run To You” is the third single from their now GOLD album, which spawned two hits in 2008, “Love Don’t Live Here” and “Lookin For A Good Time.” The single is now at country radio for airplay and is already moving up the charts.
Lady Antebellum’s debut year has been one wild ride. Most recently, the band scored two nominations for Sunday night’s 51st Annual GRAMMY AWARDS, including the all-genre “Best New Artist” and “Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.” Earlier in 2008, they took home the ACM for “Best New Vocal Group” and the CMA trophy for “New Artist of the Year.”
